Waterfront Place exemplifies integrated design throughout, incorporating an event hardstanding, landscaped zones, an interactive play area featuring a life-sized whale sculpture, an urban beach, and an Active Travel Hub. This dynamic civic space fosters activity, social engagement, and connection to the wider waterfront, blending seamlessly with Slessor Gardens and the public realm surrounding the V&A Dundee.

Inspired by the concept of ‘a walk to the beach,’ the design combines pine planting, grassy mounds, and an urban beach to create a unique experience that strengthens Dundee’s maritime connection. The urban beach animates the waterfront, offering a novel environment for relaxation, play, and views across the River Tay.

The project promotes health and wellbeing by encouraging outdoor activity, introducing green space, and supporting walking and cycling through the Active Travel Hub. It enhances social interaction, physical activity, and environmental sustainability.

Delivered by Holmes Miller Architects, Optimised Environments, Morgan Sindall Construction, and artist Lee Simmons, in partnership with Dundee City Council, Waterfront Place is a testament to high-quality placemaking and a catalyst for the ongoing revitalisation of Dundee’s waterfront.
