Fordway Alternate Provision

The brick detailing on works by Giles Gilbert Scott have provided inspiration for the proposed detailing on the Fordway centre in order to create a more engaging aesthetic.

A standard stretcher course bond is used with a tonally darker red brick all around the building at ground floor level. Including the ‘touchpoints’) where the main entrance and pupils’ entrance are located.

A horizontal stacked bond in the same red brick is suggested around the building entry to form a feature brickwork detailing, which is expected to add interest and articulation to the building whilst bringing increased robustness where pupils interface with the school façade.

The interior design for the school would evolve from the approach taken to the exterior of the buildings, with natural, sustainable, and robust finishes specified throughout. A key element of the interior of the school would be the exposed structural solution. This natural superstructure solution would bring immediate quality to the interior of the school, with timber finishes adding warmth and articulation to the internal spaces.
